Saxon's additional to the Cowboys was a welcome relief for team QB Danny White. White had not only been playing under center, but also conducting the punting game for the Cowboys in double-duty. Saxon's addition meant that was over, unless an emergency occurred. His 41.9 yard punt average was the best by a rookie in franchise history, and the best average in 16 years.
Saxon not only provided relief, he stuck with Dallas for quite some time. Suiting up for the silver and blue over eight NFL seasons, he punted the ball 591 times for 24,542 yards. He averaged 41.5 yards per punt and his longest as a Cowboy was 64 yards.
