Banks was drafted third overall by New York in the 1984 NFL draft, out of Michigan State University. He'd play in all 16 regular season games as a rookie, notching 3 sacks and 37 tackles. He quickly became a mainstay in the defensive backfield for Big Blue, becoming a starter for all 16 games in the 1986 regular season. He reached the zenith of his single-season tackle total in '86, putting up 113 takedowns.
The following season saw him continue his stellar play at linebacker, as he was named both All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl game.
He, of course, was a starter for the Giants' Super Bowl victories in games XXI and XXV, and all playoff games leading up to those Championships in each season.
In total, Banks put up the following numbers over his Giants career between 1984 and 1992:
- 627 regular season tackles
- 36 regular season sacks
- 3 regular season interceptions
- 5 regular season fumbles recovered
- 2-time Super Bowl Champ
- 1987 All-Pro
