Prince Fielder to Wear Jersey Number 84

Prince Fielder, now of the Texas Rangers, will wear jersey number 84, according to CBS Detroit.  The former Milwaukee Brewer and Detroit Tiger was acquired by Texas in a recent trade for second baseman Ian Kinsler.

Fielder wore number 28 while with Detroit and Milwaukee.  Pitcher Joakim Soria had been wearing number 28 most recently with the Rangers.

This choice of jersey number is unusual in that you don't normally see high numbers like this in baseball, other than the odd number 99.  It will certainly let Fielder be unique and stand out from the crowd in Texas.

You can already find a Prince Fielder number 84 jersey on eBay.

Elway's Jersey Number Retired at Stanford

The Stanford Cardinal football team has retired jersey number seven in honor of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, according to  Elway joins Ernie Nevers and Jim Plunkett as the two other Cardinal football players to have their jersey numbers retired.

The retirement of Elway's jersey number at half-time was the first highlight of the night for Stanford.  The second, and arguably greater highlight, was the Cardinal victory over the Oregon Ducks.

Although not many Cardinal football players have had the honor of their jersey number being retired, an exclusive club to say the least, expect that there will be at least one more number retired.  Andrew Luck, who led Stanford at QB while wearing jersey number 12, and who moved on to the NFL with the Colts wearing the same jersey number, will most likely receive the same honor as Elway in the future.
