In this category, among others, I considered: Austin Carr, Adrian Dantley, Tom Hawkins, Troy Murphy, David Rivers, and John Shumate. It came down to the two A's: Austin and Adrian. I am going with Austin here.
Carr didn't see the bulk of his court time with the Irish until he was a junior. Once he saw that court time, however, look out. In both his junior and senior seasons, Carr racked up more than 1,100 points. His PPG average was 38.1 and 38.0 in his junior and senior campaigns respectively.
Below, you'll see footage from Carr's record-setting 61 point performance against Ohio University in the 1970 NCAA Basketball Tournament.
Carr's career scoring average at Notre Dame was an amazing 34.6 points per game, landing him number one on the all-time ppg list for the Irish. He also holds the single-season scoring average mark with his 38.1 ppg in his junior season.
Did you know...........that Carr was the number one overall pick in the 1971 NBA draft?
Carr wore jersey number 34 at Notre Dame.
