Paul Stastny wears number 26 now. But................he did wear number 62 when he first broke into the NHL with Colorado, because number 26 was already taken by John-Michael Lillies.
Stastny, the left-shooting center, who is the son of Hockey Hall of Famer Peter Stastny, played a full 82 regular season games with the Avalanche during 2006-07, after being drafted 44th overall by Colorado in the 2005 NHL draft. Stastny made an immediate impact in Denver while first wearing number 62, scoring 78 points as a rookie (28 goals and 50 assists).
Although Stastny's second year in the NHL was shortened due to having his appendix removed, he was still able to play in 66 regular season games. His points-per-game average went up that year, as he acheived 71 regular season points. His value on the ice was proven through his plus 22 rating, and four game-winning goals. Statsny would also get three points in the playoffs that season, including a game-winning goal.
The following NHL season was also a shortened one for Stastny, as his arm was fractured by being hit on a shot from Olli Jokinen. He finished the regular season with a stat line of 44 regular season games played and 36 points, 11 goals and 25 assists. Statsny would also sign a contract extension in late 2008, making him an Avalanche through the 2013-14 season.
The 2009-10 NHL season was a fairly healthy and productive one for Paul. He was able to play in a full slate of regular season games, as he had done as a rookie. His reputation as a playmaker was proven as he set his teammates up with goals 59 times, while scoring 20 of his own goals.
Through the 2009-10 season, Stastny has 264 points in 274 regular season games.
Did you know................that Paul Satstny set the Colorado Avalanche record for rookie scoring in 2007, but his father holds the franchise (Quebec Nordique) record overall?
