NHL Number 43 - Martin Biron

A rather tall goalie by some standards, at 6' 3", Biron has proven he is a top-notch NHL goaltender over 12 seasons spent with three different teams.

Biron, drafted 16th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1995 draft, began playing in the NHL at the tender age of 18.  He would not see much action in his first foray in net for the Sabres, playing in only three games during the 1995-96 season.

Biron was sent down to the minors, but would be back in the NHL during the 1998-99 season, albeit briefly.  The following NHL season, that of 1999-2000, would see Biron get consistent playing time in net for the Sabres, and would be his "breakout" season.  He would guard the Sabres net in 41 games, winning 19, while posting a .909 winning percentage and a 2.42 GAA.

Biron would play for the Sabres into the 2006-07 NHL season, continuing to post an above .899 save percentage and below a 3.04 GAA.

He would be traded to the Flyers during the 2007 season, where he would play 2 and 1/2 very solid season in net.  During his two full season in Philly, Biron put up save percentages of .918 and .915.

The 2009-10 NHL season would find Biron on Long Island, playing in 29 games.

For his career, through 2009-10, Biron has a .910 save percentage and a 2.63 GAA.

NHL Number 42 - Sergei Makarov

If he had more time in the NHL, he could have been one of the all-time North American professional hockey greats.  As it is, he had a very solid seven seasons playing in North America for the Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks, as well as very briefly with the Dallas Stars.

In 424 regular season games, Makarov racked up 384 points, of which 250 were assists.  After the 1989-90 NHL season, his rookie campaign, Makarov would become one of the oldest players to ever win the Calder Memorial Trophy, at the ripe old age of 31.  He merely put up 86 points that season (24 goals and 62 assists), to go along with a 33 in the plus/minus column.

For the 1990-91 NHL season, Makarov led the league in shooting percentage with a 32.3% mark.

Although it may not have been a long NHL career, it was a bright one.

Did you know..........Makarov won two golds and a silver medal for the Soviet Union in the Olympics?

NHL Number 41 - Jocelyn Thibault

Jocelyn Thibault played 14 seasons in the NHL as a goaltender, establishing a solid career as a member of six NHL teams (five franchises, considering Quebec/Colorado).

Thibault was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1993 draft, and would play in net for them during 29 regular season games, beginning as a 19 year old.  In that rookie season, Thibault was introduced to some of the world's best hockey talent.  He put up an 8-13 record with an .892 save percentage and a 3.31 GAA.  He would improve on those numbers.

In his third NHL campaign, begun with the Avalanche, but spent mostly with the Montreal Canadiens, Thibault would show strength in net, winning 26 games with a .907 save percentage and a 2.86 GAA.  Certainly an improvement.

The remainder of Thibault's NHL career was spent with the Blackhawks, Penguins and Sabres.  Through 586 regular season games spent with those teams, Thibault would win 238 games with a .904 save percentage and a very respectable 2.75 GAA.

He is currently 48th all-time in NHL regular season wins, and 33rd all-time in NHL shutouts.

Did you know...............that Colorado traded Thibault to Montreal as part of the Patrick Roy deal?

NHL Number 40 - Patrick Lalime

Have you ever been familiar with the name of a player, but once you took a look at their stats, you realized they were a much better player than you had realized?  That's the case for me with Patrick Lalime.  I knew he was a decent goaltender, but didn't realize the breadth of his NHL career until taking a look at his stats.  Before we get to the stats, let's just state right here that Henrik Zetterberg may very well wind up being the best to ever wear the number 40.....but not just yet (as of this writing).

Patrick Lalime has worn the jersey number 40 throughout his NHL career.  As of this writing, Lalime has racked up 200
