NFL Athlete Number 33 - Tony Dorsett

Taken with the 2nd overall pick in the 1977 NFL Draft, by the Dallas Cowboys out of the University of Pittsburgh, Tony Dorsett is the best NFL athlete to ever wear the jersey number 33. The Cowboys were picking a bonafide collegiate superstar when they selected Dorsett in the first round. He was a four-time All-American, led the nation in rushing in 1976, as well as picking up the Heisman, Walter Camp and Maxwell awards that year. Oh yeah, he also led his team to the National Championship in 1976.

Dorsett continued to exude his star power on the gridiron when he arrived with the Dallas Cowboys. Winning the NFL offensive rookie of the year in 1977, Dorsett rushed for 1,007 yards and 12 touchdowns. What did he accomplish after this? Well, here's just a tidbit:

  • 12,739 career rushing yards

  • 90 rushing and receiving touchdowns (77 rushing, 13 receiving)

  • 4 time Pro-Bowler

  • 5 time All-Pro

  • Super Bowl XXII Champion

  • Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 1994

Did you know..........Tony's son, Anthony Dorsett, played defensive back in the NFL between 1996 and 2003?

Bullshit

How about the first ever NFL hall of famer.

And a quarterback who has punting and defensive interception records still standing

I must concur:

Quoting ESPN - "[Baugh] helped revolutionize pro football"

And as far as athleticism, in a time when men played both ways with little to no padding he led the NFL in pass yards, interceptions, and yes the career punting record that still stands today - over 60 years later.

Dorsett is a football legend; Baugh is a football God.

No question about it, as good as Dorsett was, Baugh owns #33 forever.
