Lynn Swann was great, as was Michael Irvin, however Marvin Harrison is the best professional athlete to ever wear the jersey number 88.
He's not flashy and you don't hear about him off the field. He just plays the game, plays all-out, catches the ball and finds the endzone. In his twelve-year career wearing an NFL jersey, Harrison has been selected to the Pro Bowl eight times (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006.) According to pro-football-reference.com, Harrison is currently third on the NFL's all-time list for receiving touchdowns with 123 (as of Sept. 14, 2007,) fourth on the list for receptions with 1,026, and fifth in receiving yards with 13,780. These numbers are over a twelve year span including 2007(he has only played one game so far in 2007.)
Harrison had a stellar year in 2002, setting the NFL record for most pass receptions in a season with 143. He also finished that year second on the all-time list for most single season games with 100 or more yards receiving, with 10 such games (behind only Michael Irvin with 11.)
Did you know......Harrison played his college ball at Syracuse University?

Marvin edged out Lynn Swann because of his cool, calm demeanor. But he had me loving it when he spiked the ball dead in Vrabel's face!! MARVIN..MARVIN..MARVIN..
ReplyDeleteI wonder what Lynn Swan or Michael Irvin would have accomplished with Manning throwing them the ball? Just some food for thought.
ReplyDeleteI CANT BELIEVE HE BEAT OUT LYNN SWANN FOR THIS SPOT. LYNN SWANN WAS ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREATS IN PRO FOOTBALL AND DESERVES THIS SPOT MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD.
ReplyDeleteLynn Swann (guess there are already way too many Steelers)
ReplyDeleteARE YOU KIDDING????? Harrison over Swann? must be a Steeler hater.....a Hall of Famer and Super Bowl MVP??? I like Marvin but with the defensive rules now and playing in that offense? Please.......
ReplyDeleteSwann #1....and #2 for that matter.
What no Cowboy homer pick? WOW...
ReplyDeletelynn swann is so overrated he has a career high of 61 receptions and has never had a 1000 YD season stupid asses
ReplyDeleteAnd Michael Irving has a problem powdering his nose! He, Lawrence Taylor and Sugar Ray Leonard should get together and have a Coke and a smile! I'm talking about Coca-Cola!!! LMFAO!!!
ReplyDeleteHarrison is better, but the Playmaker was much more fun to watch (on and off the field)
ReplyDeletereally? irvin and swan both had hall of famer quarterbacks throwing them the ball
ReplyDeleteWhat about John Mackey. He's the quintessential hall of fame TE.
ReplyDeleteIt's really a shame the one of the most clutch players of all time never seems to get due respect.... for my money.... 88 is .... DREW PEARSON!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow bout Alan Page? NFL MVP at DT, Hall of Famer.
ReplyDeleteWhat no Tony Gonzalez.....he's only the BEST TE to ever play the GAME!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHall of famers? Let's not begin to confusing Bradshaw's passing capabilities with Manning's.
ReplyDeleteStallworth and Swan had to split their great stats too. Marvin Harrision is the worst of any pick I've seen here. It's a pretty big advantage to be able to stick your hand up in the air and have the QB hit it with a football from 40 yards away.
Gr8t Gr8t number, but there is no equal here. Associate Page wins hands down!

1971 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year
1971 UPI NFC Player of the Year
1971 NFC Defensive Player of the Year

Minnesota Vikings #88 Retired
Lilly, Olsen and Mean Joe give Page some competition at the DT position.
Page is the Icon for the Vikings. The icon for Defensive Tackles and is far and away the icon for 88. Please change this fast!!
I agree that Page blows Swann away for this number. Maybe even Harrison.
ReplyDeleteI like Page too. Swan and Irvin were spectacular. Harrison is a consumate proffessional. But Page was a really great player and a great athlete and had a long and productive career. Tough one for me.
ReplyDelete2nd comment I hope you realize Michael Irvin DIDN'T have Manning throwing to him.
ReplyDeleteIrvin would be the greatest 88 if his career wouldnt have ended early due to injury.
