What a great name for an athlete. Especially for a football player. Jack Youngblood is the best professional athlete to ever wear the jersey number 85. A 2001 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Youngblood played his entire NFL career, spanning the years of 1971 through 1984, wearing a Los Angeles Rams jersey.
Following the 1979 NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams advanced to the NFC title game. In a first-round playoff game, prior to that NFC title game, Youngblood fractured his leg (fibula.) Youngblood was fitted with a brace and subsequently played with the broken leg in both the NFC title game and Super Bowl XIV that year.
Some of Jack Youngblood's accomplishments:
- All-Pro five times
- Seven-time Pro Bowler
- Played in 201 consecutive games
- 1975 NFL Defensive Lineman of the Year
- NFL Hall of Famer (Class of 2001)
- Rams Ring of Fame member
According to profootballweekly.com, "Roger Staubach said Youngblood was the toughest defensive lineman that he ever faced."
