Shannon Sharpe, who played the majority of his NFL career with the Denver Broncos, is the best professional athlete to wear the jersey number 84. One of the premier tight ends ever in the NFL, Sharpe was elected to eight Pro Bowls over his fourteen year career. Sharpe's career, spanning 1990 to 2003, was bookended by stints with the Broncos, filled by a two-year service for the Baltimore Ravens in 2000 and 2001. For his career, Sharpe amassed 62 touchdowns and 10,060 receiving yards; not bad for a tight end. Sharpe wasn't originally projected to have the type of career he wound up having, as he wasn't taken until the seventh round of the 1990 NFL draft, where he was slotted as a wide receiver. Sharpe was quickly converted to a tight end, thus beginning a Hall of Fame caliber career. Sharpe will be Hall-eligible in 2009.
Did you know......Sharpe participated in the 2005 World Series of Poker?
