A Cleveland Browns fixture at tight-end from 1978 through 1990, and a 1999 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ozzie Newsome is the best professional athlete to ever wear the jersey number 82. Ozzie, who some called the "Wizard of Oz," (although Ozzie Smith might lay a claim to that nickname first,) played in 198 consecutive games for the Browns, a feat of endurance in professional football. Over a thirteen year career, Newsome amassed 47 TDs, 662 receptions and 7,980 yards. Not too shabby, for a tight end.
In 1978, Ozzie earned Offensive Player of the Year honors for the Browns, as a rookie. After the 1981, 1984 and 1985 NFL seasons, Newsome was chosen for the Pro Bowl. He was All-Pro in 1979 and 1984, and caught at least one pass in 150 consecutive games.
Did you know......Ozzie Newsome is currently general manager of the Baltimore Ravens (the original Cleveland Browns?)

John Stallworth anybody?
ReplyDeleteYeah, for real, John Stallworth. He played in six AFC championships and won four Super Bowls. His career statistics were an impressive 537 receptions for 8,723yards and 63 TDs. Stallworth played in four Pro Bowls and was the Steelers' two-time MVP. Give the guy some love.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Stallworth is worthy. He and Swann were amazing, but they played with a line so dominating that I could have played behind them and thrown to those two all-stars.
ReplyDeleteThe Oz dominated playing for a second-rate team.
I agree - Stallworth for sure!
ReplyDeleteThe OZ was allergic to blocking...hence making him incomplete compared to Stallworth. Newsome is worthy... not debateable.. But Stallworth did it ALL.
ReplyDeleteJohn Taylor...San Fransisco 49ers, pry the most under rated wide receiver of all time
ReplyDeleteI finally go with a WR and you pick a TE. You can't argue with Berry's Stats.
