No we are not talking about the former ESPN anchor, although she is impressive also. The best athlete to wear the number 36 is former Phillie great and Hall of Fame pitcher, Robin Roberts. Some career average stats:

- 15 wins per 162-game season
- 124 strikeouts per 162-game season

- 28 wins
- 198 strikeouts
- 346.7 innings pitched!!!!
- 2.59 ERA
- 33 complete games (that's in a season - not a career!)

ReplyDeleteWow! This was obviously the worst choice for best number 36! This needs to be changed immediately to JEROME "THE BUS" BETTIS!!!!!!!! I'm from Pittsburgh and I watched Jerome Bettis in his final season and I'll tell you, he looked like he could have played for 10 more years!!!! No one beats the BUS!!! NEVER!!!

ReplyDeleteGood grief. Does the Pittsburgh area get faster internet access than other places? Stealer fans think that the best Stealer to wear a particular number is the best ATHLETE to wear that number. Jerome Bettis wasn't even the best runner of his era. No way he's the best 36.
ReplyDeleteIf a pitcher today was putting up Robin Roberts' numbers, he'd be making more money than A-Rod. RR had better career averages than the best pitchers of today could put together over their five best seasons.

While I don't necessarily agree on Roberts (not a terrible choice, but I probably would give the nod to Gaylord Perry with his 314 wins). But, Bettis? Come one, guys!
