John Elway would have to be considered here, starting five Super Bowls and with all his late game heroics. However, being as objective as possible (especially given that four of the first five best athletes are Yankees,) Mickey Mantle
is the choice for number 7. Here are his credentials:
- All-Star: 1952-1965, 1967-1968
- MVP, 1956-1957, 1962
- Twelve-time pennant winner
- Seven-time World Series winner
- World Series record-holder for: home runs (18,) RBI (40,) runs (42,) walks (43,) extra-base hits (26,) and total bases (123.)

john elway can hold his own wearing jersey #7, he went to 4 super bowls before winning his first one and he won in consecutive years too. "Comeback Kid" he the guy you want within the last 2 minutes of any game especially the super bowl.
ReplyDeleteElway over the Mick
ReplyDeleteMichael Vick definitely best to wear number 7!!! Just kidding haha
ReplyDeleteThe Mick is NO DOUBT the Greatest to ever wear the number "7." Elway is nice. Very nice. But Mantle was First and is still one of the best!
ReplyDeleteI think that there could be an argument made for Bobby Orr as well on this one.
ReplyDeleteBobby Orr wore number 4 chief. thanks. im a broncos fan and i have to agree that the mick deserves this one. Elway is my homeboy but the mick was also one of the greatest natural athletes to play the game
ReplyDeletemantle is 1st for #7. john elway and howie morenz are a close 2nd and 3rd.
ReplyDeleteNot even a mention of Phil Esposito?
ReplyDeletePele best soccer player ever
ReplyDeleteAgree about Elway. But I like Phil Esposito and Pistol Pete at 3 and 4.
ReplyDeleteBobby Orr wore #4 and Pele wore #10. Just sayin'...
ReplyDeleteIn a few years this will be Mike Vick! MV7 BELIEVE
ReplyDeleteThe Mick! No argument! When people think of #7 it's Mickey Mantle that comes to mind. Kids growing up back in the 50's would wear their Yankee caps just like the Mick and would even try to walk like the Mick. This man could hit a ball 500 feet then his next at bat could lay doown a bunt and beat it out with his Blinding Speed. The Number 7 belongs to one Man only and that Man is Mickey Mantle!
ReplyDeleteMicky Mantle's career was almost immediately reduced substantially by having two bad knees his first or second seasons that lasted his entire career. He was still great. He also played a very important position in centerfield.
ReplyDeleteHe gets my vote over Elway.
John Elway ..... hands down
ReplyDeleteI almost complained, having seen Elway on the NFL board...then realized that I was on the wrong one. But yes, I would agree that Mantle was the best athlete to wear the number.
ReplyDeleteWhen I clicked the link for No. 7, I knew it was gonna have Mantle, even though it should undoubtedly be John Elway...disgraceful.
